Online Merchandising Manager, Virtual Goods
Do you have a passion for online retail? Does the idea of marketing virtual goods appeal to you? Well, how about merchandising the world's largest catalog of virtual goods and a thriving micro-transactions economy? If this sounds good, then IMVU has a really fun, high-impact job for you.
We are looking for a talented, smart, experienced and enthusiastic Online Merchandising Manager to drive our digital goods catalog business. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting and carrying out a strategic site merchandising vision that provides a best-in-class customer experience and helps to grow sales of IMVU's catalog inventory and related product bundles. The Online Merchandising Manager must have a passionate customer and content focus, proven project management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a passion for online retail, a strong understanding of web technology, a high level of flexibility, commitment and a sense of humor.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and own an integrated merchandising calendar for IMVU's virtual goods catalog, including site merchandising, email programs, and seasonal promotions that help to grow the business and provide a best-in-class customer experience
- Understand IMVU customer needs by segment and use that knowledge to deliver timely promotions that provide customers with an unparalleled shopping experience
- Plan and execute winning campaigns, coordinate creative assets and copy, and manage relationships with virtual goods creators, media/brand partners, and other suppliers
- Work cross-functionally with IMVU product management, design, engineering, marketing/PR, customer service/support, community management, and billing on all merchandising-related issues
- Continually measure and optimize the performance of site, email and program content and recommend changes to maximize its potential, basing decisions on and measuring results with data
- Work with the IMVU Content Creator community to harness input and feedback into proposed catalog improvements and programs
Qualifications:
- 5+ years e-commerce and merchandising experience as a product manager or online marketing manager, preferably at a leading online commerce company like Amazon, eBay, NetFlix, QVC, Zappos, Gap, or Wal-Mart
- Results-oriented ability to get things done in fluid start-up environment
- Strong quantitative analytical skills and a relentless attention to operating and usage metrics to identify opportunities for catalog optimization and business growth
- Good understanding of web technologies, trends, and products
- Extremely strong written & verbal communication skills
- A passion for retail
- Good attention to detail
- Proven track record of taking ownership and driving results
- Previous experience with online communities, social networking, entertainment/media, virtual worlds/gaming, and/or online subscription products is a plus
- BA/BS required, MBA a plus

Senior Software Engineer
IMVU, Inc. is seeking Software Engineers at all levels to work in our Palo Alto, CA headquarters.
We work in small, dynamic teams using test driven development and other Agile methodologies to deliver code to our customers 20+ times daily.
We all have the ability to really make a difference in the lives of our customers every day, and we build features that delight our customers while meeting our business objectives.
You will be responsible for delivering major applications for our commerce and community web site, our instant messaging client and -- since this is a startup -- whatever else needs to be done!
This position requires the following skills/experience:
- Strong foundational knowledge of computer science
- Expertise in Windows application development, ideally C++, Python, and/ or Flash integration
- Development experience with large-scale web applications
- Familiarity and affinity for test driven development and continuous integration
One or more of the following skills/experience is desired:
- Implementation experience one or more of PHP, MySQL, Python, C++, Flash or other programming languages
- Experience with game programming
- Experience architecting or contributing to one or more open source projects
- Deep knowledge of DHTML, CSS, JavaScript, and DOM
- Experience architecting or large-scale web applications
- Ability to cleanly implement a UI across different browsers (IE6/7, Mozilla/Firefox, Safari)
